I want to thank my good friend Johnnie Mullin for pointing me to the website:

Rosling, Hans (2010).  Two-hundred countries, 200 years, 4 minutes. Retrieved 12/23/2010 from http://www.flixxy.com/200-countries-200-years-4-minutes.htm.

This 4:47-minute video shows 200 years of data (120,000 data points), over the years 1810 to 2010, of per capital income and life expectancy for 200 countries. Changes over time and a projection into the future are shown in this marvelous presentation.

This short video is an excellent example of how a large amount of data can be organized and presented in a form useful to students with a wide range of math backgrounds. The software used in this presentation also allows easy interaction between a user and the data. I suspect you will say "wow" after you view this video.

Final Remarks

Spend a bit of time reflecting on what you have just read. How does the information fit in with your current knowledge, beliefs, and activities? How can you make use of the information to help improve our informal and formal educational systems? Who do you know that might benefit from reading the IAE Blog entry?
